January 1, 2009
Today is the first day of the New Year. The first day of my goal to blog my food, water & exercise intake for 1 year.
This year I hope to improve my food photography skills. I want to experiment with cleaner eating. I want to spend less & eat better. I want to waste less food. I want healthy & delicious. I want less sugar.I want to not start kitchen fires.
Today - not an auspicious start!
Breakfast: 3 shortbread cookies (I KNOW! First cookies in a week!); biegnets
The biegnets almost weren’t. I put the oil on to heat, and then went to check up my my blog buddies. I forgot about the oil. And then, I remembered! So, I went & put a couple of biegnets in the oil - and they turned black in seconds. So, I took them out of the oil & put in a candy thermometer to see how hot the oil was. I turned around. I heard a *pop*. When I turned back towards the stove, a thick column of smoke was pouring out of the pot. I turned off the stove, moved the pot. And then I noticed the whole house was filling with smoke. I opened all of the downstairs window, but the smoke kept coming. I put the pot out on the back steps, and then I heard it. My baby was coughing. I rescued him, & ran upstairs to quarantine the kitties.
About an hour later, the house was smoke free - although my chest hurt for hours afterwards.
And then, I started over & made more biegnets - and they were delicious!
Lunch: 1/2 wrap sandwich (left over from last night), 5 tots with ranch (also leftover); some cranberries & 2 pieces of lefse.
Dinner: Black-eyed pea soup (for luck); 2 pieces of turkey lasagna; 1 glass wine
Water: 80 oz
Exercise: I didn’t make it out to run, but I did crank out 60 minutes on the elliptical while watching Eddie Izzard.
Happy New Year!
